renaissance one and Apples and Snakes are co-hosting a CREATIVE SALON for emerging poets and writers this February.  The salons began last October and run every other month.

Within the sessions there is conversation, short presentations and skills sharing within a convivial environment, and the chance to meet new artists and practitioners.  It can offer support, opportunities and mentoring to promising talent, and emerging writers, which are areas of importance for the literature sector.

When: Thursday 9 February from 4pm – 6pm  admission free, but limited so book a place early

Where: Café at Rich Mix, 35 – 47 Bethnal Green Road London E1 6LA

Aims: a fun relaxing forum with the emphasis on creativity, connecting and sharing

Who is it for? for emerging poets, spoken word artists and those who work in,  support, or are interested in, poetry and spoken word formats.  In true salon style it is cosmopolitan, and all are welcome.

This is the 3rd salon in the series and it features presentations from poet, playwright DEAN ATTA, who also won a Spirit of London Award for 'Achievement through the Arts', Fundraising and Arts Consultant ANGEL DAHOUK who was also formerly  Deputy Education Manager at the Poetry Society, poet, playwright and Lyric Theatre Young Artist Associate DEANNA RODGER and DAN COCKRILL who runs the popular event Bang Said The Gun and develops and facilitates a range of education projects.

Movers and Shakers featured at previous salons in Oct and Dec 2011 have included writeer and producer ANJAN SAHA, poet, playwright and Artistic Director of Slambassadors UK JOELLE TAYLOR, spoken word, hip-hop and theatre writer and performer SIMON MOLE, TABITHA TIMOTHY a producer and practitioner exploring music and the power of art and creativity to transform lives, RAKESH PARMAR a producer and marketing practitioner who is also a Trustee for literature development agency Writing East Midlands, writer and editor NIALL O'SULLIVAN, poet and facilitator PHILIP WELLS, and artist RICHARD MARSH who spoke about how to successfully take a spoken word show to Edinburgh. 

The Salon is followed by a live Spoken Word Show - an exciting 'spoken word meets music and carnival' event, called Tilt's London Liming meets Come Rhyme With Me.  A collaboration between Dean Atta, Deanna Rodger and Tilt, it presents performances by leading spoken word artists, singers and musicians - FLOetic Lara, Inua Ellams, Jasmine Cooray, James Massiah, Maria Ferguson and Dougie Hastings, plus soca, Brazilian, reggae, calypso and dance tunes by DJ Cliffy.  Tilt has wowed audiences around the country with its liming events and you can view videos at www.ontilt.org

How often does the salon run? Every other month, the next salon is Thursday 12 April at 4pm.

What does it feature? conversation, ideas, tips, skills swaps (via a message board), sharing of short tasters of performance and works-in-progress, short presentations by movers and shakers in the arts sector

renaissance one are producers and advocates who work across literature artforms - from fiction to poetry and talks - from book launches and lectures to tours. 

We develop tours, book events, spoken word projects and we mentor and support writers and producers, both formally and informally. 

Over the years we have worked and collaborated with number over 100 writers and artists including Ali Smith, John Agard, Gary Younge, Caroline Bird, Dan Rhodes, Jason Yarde, Jackie Kay, Caryl Phillips, Charlie Dark and many more.  During the year we support Tongue Fu (as a producer) and in 2012 we are developing projects with Writing East Midlands, Peter Bearder (Pete The Temp), Jean 'Binta' Breeze, Grace Nichols, Lydia Towsey, John Agard and more.  Our forté is to channel our curiosity, imagination and our wide-ranging understanding of literature into any given project to bring unique results.
